metformin making me sick

hello i,ve been taking metformin for 4 years with out any problems, till about 2 months ago im sick after i take them, im on 4 tablets 500mg a day i cut down to one a day but still ill .i stop taking them a week now and im feeling better feeling better ,i can,t take anymore of them i don,t know what is happening ,i made a apointment for my GP ,any body any idea,s what it could be, there the slow release 500mg tabs 2 twice a day after foot.
 
Sorry can't really help with the metformin as they made me ill within a very short time of starting them. How are your blood glucose levels and have you changed your diet or exercise levels recently? You have done the correct thing to book an appointment with your GP. There are other regimes I am sure that your doc will discuss with you.

i haven,t had my bloods done since january ,but they were fine ,i have been exercising the same as i do ,and dieting the same.i can,t understand whats gone wrong .i will just have to wait for my GP .
 
yeh I was on metformin for 5 years along with other meds. I didn't tolerate metformin the entire time... a lot of nausea and diarrhoea for me. It didn't matter about dosage and type of pill (eg. slow release or normal). The slow release though was torture as it kept me nauseated the entire day... whereas at least with the other type I was just nauseated a few times a day after taking them. It's probably a good idea to speak with your doc about getting taken off it and getting some other type of oral med to assist.
