Metformin maybe the problem ?

It is a possibility that this is due to a Statin, it is a well known side effect. Are you on any type of Statin.

My question to you is are you taking statins? Simvaststin gave me shocking muscle troubles.

...and my response to your question about insulin would be insulin is a last resort when all else has failed to gain good control.

Looking back through your posts you say your Bg levels are Ok. Do you test very often, if so what sort of readings do you get ?

Have you had these pains since diagnosis, or did you have them before ? Might help us to help you if we know a little more.

When do you test your Bg levels ? Pre meal, post meal, times ?
How many times a day ? Is it every day ?

Sorry for the questions but it all helps us.

Only testing when you get up and and before a meal is really not adequate. Is there any chance you could test pre every meal, 1 and 2 hrs after meals for a day or so and let us know here what the levels are. That is very important.

It would also help if we knew exactly the sort of food you are eating each day ? Sorry for the tasks but I am really just trying to get a clearer picture. More information.

Muscle pain is not uncommon in diabetes and is a recognised form of neuropathy. The form that affects the muscles in the thighs is called femoral neuropathy and is not uncommon in patients over 50. So before assuming that it is either the statins or the metformin, it's best to get it checked with a doctor.

Statins have a known side-effect of causing muscle pain, but it is not as common as is often supposed:

Metformin has known side effects which are indigestion, diarrhoea, and nausea but not muscle pains. Metformin is actually excreted from the body in the urine within around 48 hours of taking it and it comes out in exactly the same form as it went in. It is not metabolised by the body into any other products. The only time metformin is associated with muscle pain is during lactoacidosis, a condition caused by dehydration and high glucose levels and it's not the metformin causing those pains even then.

I'd have the pains checked out by a doctor.
