Should I take metformin if I am not having food?

It says on my Metformin box, "Take ONE tablet twice a day with food".

Which is self explanatory to me.

OK, thanks. Just wondering as it is Holy Friday and so no food until the bringing out of the Winding Sheet in the late afternoon. Guess it won't hurt not to have the medicine.

I took an extra as I knew I would eat like double as much as usual later in the day

I'm a bit late for that then, I just ate a cheese and diced ham omelette with my Metformin tablet and the other medication that requires to be taken with food.
