Hi All

I need some help. Please can someone tell me if feeling sick most of the time is part of taking Metformin 500mg.(I have being taking 2 a day for the last 3 weeks). At the moment I take one in the morning with my breakfast and the other one with my evening meal. Can you tell me if this is nornal.
I also take one Omperazole 20mg for Reflux oesophagitis in the mornings with my metformin.
and in the evening i take one Lisinopril 2.5mg with my metformin.

Dave

Metformin can, and often does , do this. You adapt in a couple of weeks. Try taking the Metformin in the middle of your meal

Have you just started taking it or recently increased your dose? Most sensible doctors will start you off at minimum dose and increase slowly to avoid this. Maybe just taking one a day until the nausea subsides and then adding the second one back in would help.

Some people find the ER type preferable.

As Hana says taking with the meal, and avoiding carbs at the same time, may help. If none of these things help then get back to your doctor.

Hi all,

I hope you'll permit me to chime in here with my first post.

This is something that has bothered me on and off for a few years, and I have some anti-nausea tabs to use when the going gets tough. As I'm on 5 x 500 metformin daily, plus other meds, I guess I've just got used to it now.

Hope to pick up some more info from you all as I browse the site.

Thanks again.

Have you ever been offered Glucophage SR tablets? They are prolonged release tablets that are designed to release metformin slowly and continuously over several hours. This produces a steady blood level of the medicine throughout the day. The tablets are designed to be taken once or twice a day with meals, depending on your blood sugar control. They must be swallowed with water and not broken, chewed or crushed, as this would damage the prolonged release action.
