Hello everyone,
My name is John,I am new to this forum.
I was diagnosed type 2 approx 4weeks ago and have been taking 1x500mg metformin and 1x 30mg gliclazide per day until 5 days ago when i was advised by my diabetic nurse to increase to 2x500gm metformin, anyway i have been fine until today when i have had terrible stomach rumbling and a feeling of hunger and nausea even after eating breakfast,is this normal with increasing the dose of metformin, its also been very windy which the missus doesn,t appreciate

Yes this is very common. People on this forum often refer to it as metfartin! Make sure you take your met* during a meal, not before or after and that should reduce the bad effects.

Welcome to the forum John :)

Yep ......
Its a well known side effect which can be troublesome. Never had a problem with it myself though. There is a slow release version available if it remains troublesome after a few weeks or so. Your body needs to get used to the drug. I used to take mine just before food but it can also be taken with the meaql which may help.

There is a section in Diabetes Medication and Drugs entitled 'Metformin Questions and Answers'. Have a look through there many of the questions have been answered there. There is also another thread with all the known side effects listed.
