I was recently told i'm type 2 and put on metformin 4x 500mg a day. The dreaded problem is the upset tummy!!!!(to put it nice) i usually worse in the morning after i've taken tablets. So i've decided to take 1 tablet after breakfast and my 2nd at lunch time.and the other 2 in the evening. Has anyone done this sort of thing and will it help with my tummy issues?

Hi. Yes, many have bowel upset with the standard Metformin. It often fades after a week or two but if not, ask the GP to swap you over to Metformin (SR) Slow Release which normally cures it.

Hi. I was one of the lucky majority who had no issues.

I think the advice is to take them with (during) meals and plenty of fluids which may help.

Otherwise the Slow Release (SR) version can help some people.
