Excuse the spelling of wrong lol.
My carb counting and novo rapid ratio is fine cause I'm always in good range 2-3 hours after eating but my background insulin does not work to well I always seem to go high after 2-3 hours. My endo wants to get me on metformin to try stop this from happening. Has anyone taking this strategy, does it work??? Thanks

Is that because your endo feels you have insulin resistance? Or do you suffer with pcos and are having hormonal problems?

Sorry @nathb youve lost me. Are you in good range 2-3 hours after eating (like it says in your first post) or do you go high 3 hours after eating?

Post prandial highs, and 3 hours after eating would be a post prandial high, would be related to your bolus dose for the meal. Do you carb count? Are you confident you counting the carbs correctly? What's your I:C ratio? Have you done any testing or adjustments to that recently? Have your tried pre bolusing to reduce post prandial spikes?

Alternatively, if you're in range 3 hours after eating but you think there's a problem with you background insulin, what basal insulin are you using? Do you split it? Have you done a basal test recently?

Hi nathb,

Is there a reason to not simply increase your background insulin?

When I tried Metformin the main difference was that my 4am liver dump reduced and I was able to have more stable sugars overnight.
