Metformin

Be careful with it I had to come of it because of bowel movement in the night

It was unbearable for me - had to run to the toilet when out all the time and in work, sometimes 10x a day... In work I was IT systems admin so I could just vanish whenever I wanted, but I don't know how I would have coped if in the usual position of having to request toilet breaks Got called for Jury service and was excused because I took Metformin.

I have been on 2g/day for the last couple of months, working slowly up from 500mg - side effects on day1 when I took 'before' rather than 'during' my evening meal, but no reaction since. May you be one of the 'lucky' ones:)

I was taken off metformin yesterday! I had no side-effects from the metformin, but I am also not sure that it did anything for me.

Just to add my 2p worth. I was put on metformin when I was first (mis)diagnosed with type2. Unknown to everyone I had actually come down with type LADA (Late Onset). After a few years I was put on insulin - but kept with the metformin.
The thing I would say is that metformin reduces the amount of sugar absorbed by the gut - and reduces the amount of sugar realised into the bloodstream by the liver - so you will have to adjust your insulin ratios to compensate - but only you will know by how much. ;)

I've been type 1 for 41 years and recently started Metformin, it has had an effect as, if I take insulin 20 minutes before eating and a 500mg tablet after eating it keeps my sugars in single figures. It did upset my stomach for a while - which is always fun - but I've worked through it. The only downside I find is the inability to drink alcohol, not the end of the world.
Not sure where you got your advice "no to drink alcohol". From what I read Diabetics can drink with in moderation (upto 14 units per week). Just avoid less than 10% strength alcohol like beer as they have unfermented carbohydrate. I am 75, T2 for 20 years and have a glass of wine 3 or 4 times a week(1 bottle of 75cl wine).
