Metformin

I posted here that on the 13th of September that I withdrew my use of Metformin as an experiment to assess the effect.

Still NO Metformin, levels are absolutely fine ! Haven't detected any difference.

Can still indulge in a goodly amount of decent red, but no more dashing to the loo !

Just had lunch, deep fried half a chicken and a bottle of Montipulciano d'Abbruzzo.

Marvellous !

P.S don't forget that everything in the supermarket is ' low fat ' except the shoppers !

I gave up Metformin as an experiment 5 days ago (DN does not know) my levels are the same if not better, and no more urgent trips to the loo. My highest BG so far today is 5.7.

BioHaZard ! Bl**dy well done mate ! What you don't tell the DN won't hurt her OR you !
I'm trying to approach this test in a scientific way, that is to go for a month or so trial, recording all results, then make an informed choice to continue or not.
As you may have realised from my other posts I am a great friend of the bottle, my principle love is red wine, particularly Italian, so the conflict between red wine and the dreaded metformin has made me into somewhat of an athlete getting to the loo !

Since adopting this NON metformin approach my BG levels are unaffected and I can saunter to the loo at leisure.

Superchip ( day 12 sans metformin )

Thanks Superchip, well done to you too.

I was only on 1 pill, my last meeting with DN was after 2months another full blood test and we were gonna talk about coming of it, but was really getting fed up with loo issues lol, so took the plunge and dropped it. Not sure if you seem my other post about DN visit.

I still take a multivitamin, bitter melon and cinnamon pill each day.

Nowt wrong with Vits, bitter lemon and especially cinnamon, one of my favourite spices I put on just about everything !

The great thing about learning to deal with any medical condition is to LEAD not be led by missinformed medics.
Just to mention that I am 18 years post heart transplant and I've given up most of the meds they say I should be swallowing especially STATINS, the worst drug, in my humble opinion, that the pharma's have ever come up with ( huge profits notwithsatnding !.)

No I haven't seen your other post about DN visit.

Good luck and happy days to you Bio, Superchip

Apart from the BM which did not a lot for me, I completely agree. Even the great Dr Robert Atkins advocated vitamins so who am I to argue. I take other supplements as well. No harm trying things out, but for excellent BG support it has to be Gymnema and Cinnamon all the way.

I was looking at trying Gymnema when my cinnamon runs out.

I was diagnosed in 2010, prescribed Metformin, & told by my doctor they could go up to 4x500 per day, & then add others in. I was quite horrified, having not been a tablet taker at all. apart from some for blood pressure. I said let us see what diet will do first. We started out with 1 per day & that increased to 2. I found they upset my stomach quite a lot & refused to take more. Was given sitagliptin to supplement & that, with a sensible diet, seems to be working. My BS averages 7 - 7.5. I too refuse to take statins. My problem is the galloping to the Loo thing, & a feeling of being too full to eat, at times. This usually passes after a few days. I did lose two & half stone initially, & have managed to keep that at bay!!! probably the 3times a week Sequence dancing!!! Hang in there. refuse to be dictated to.
