I am a Type 1 diabetic who takers Novorapid and Levemir.

I have recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid which rendered my Blood Sugars almost uncontrollable. I literally was increasing my Basal Insulin by 2 units every 2nd or 3rd day.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is that I have been put on twice daily regime of 500mcg Metformin. It has worked absolute wonders with rreducing my BS and insulin requirements ....

But, it seems to make me sweat absolute buckets. Literally I can be covered from head to toe in Sweat (especially across forehead and in my fringe). Has anyone else experienced this?! Is there an alternative to Metformin that might work along similar lines but might not present the same potential side effects.

Hiya. I'm type 1 and an also on Novorapid and levemir. I was out on Metformin SR about a month ago for similar reasons. Haven't had problems with sweating, but it does make me very, very lightheaded and nauseous. I've got an appointment with my doctor this week to discuss coming off the stuff.

I knows it's still relatively early days, but I have seen no benefits whatsoever and I have felt awful ever since I started taking the damned stuff.

If I were you I would definitely mention to sweating to your doctor. They might try putting you on the slow release version, which apparently has less side effects (or so I have been told).

Anyway, good luck with it!

Em :)

It seems to make me lightheaded too

metformin slow release usually comes with the brand name Glucophage SR and is usually in 500mg elongated tablets. I take them and they are SO0oo much better in many ways than the standard tablets :D
