Since my Dr put me on 1000 grms of metformin a day I have had a bad back, anyone else experienced this

Hi Mike,

Welcome, I don't log on very often, but I was diagnosed last year and I also had some strange side effects on taking metaformin having strange sensations and bone pain, I got all that resolved by asking my doctor to switch me to the SR (slow release) version of metaformin... Just giving you an option for your doctor, it costs the same as the normal one, so no issue for them to swap it and at least if your symptoms go away you'll still be able to take the medicine.

When I was 1st diagnosed with type 2 diabetes I was on some other tablets & after about 2 yrs they wasn't having the same affects. So my GP at that time put me on Metformin & straight away we saw the difference in my sugar levels (for the better) BUT after 6 yrs of taking them I fought to NOT go onto insulin because the thought off injecting myself every day was worrying me like mad. BUT in the end I had no choice I have too insulin pens I use every day 1, 3 times a day and the other twice a day + 2 Sitagliptin/Metformin Hydrochloride. 50 mg/1,000 mg a day. I take 38 tablets a day for other related and not related health problems. So I find it hard to know which is causing me body pains, bone pains or weakness in my arm muscles. I have loads of problems sleeping also which doesn't help me diabetes what so ever. Am I alone with this or do a lot of other diabetes have the same problems please? ( sorry but I'm NOT very good with wording these things ) Plus it's my 1st time on here.

Hello & welcome. Can't answer all your questions - I don't take insulin but I do understand how hard it is when you're on a lot of medication - you can't possibly work out what is causing what & then you end up taking more drugs to deal with side effects of others!! I think a lot of drugs effect sleeping too which is awful & just adds to how bad you're feeling!!
Sending best wishes.

@Gadgetman52 - Hi. With prescription medicines there should be an information leaflet contained inside the box/packet. Have a read through the information for side effects that are listed. :)

@Gadgetman52 - Hello. When you go to collect your prescription from the chemist - why not ask to have a word with a Pharmacist, Chemist nowadays have a room where you can talk in private.:)
