Mid morning snack help

@bigboi, moving to a basal/bolus will take away the need to snack between meals, it's a much better insulin regime than the one you are on now as you can be more flexible around meal-times.

As for a carby snack, Nairn's Cheese Oatcakes are really nice as are fun-sized banana's, if you choose banana's make sure they are not too ripe.

Good luck with the changeover, if you've not got the book already do purchase Think Like a Pancreas as it has some fantastic advice for people on MDI.
 
What can i have for my midmorning snack? I usually have crisps but it needs replacing i think.. I need a mid morning snack as i am on novamix30 at the moment. I woke up with 13.0 had my breakfast etc , then it shot up to 16 so i went a bike run.. Its now going down 12/11 way. So what is good to have as mid morning snack? Suggestions please :)
If you are on an insulin mix which requires periodical snacks, then the suggestions about ham and eggs etc are worse than useless to you. Take carbs to meet the insulin peak you will experience but just less than normal. Anything wrong with half an apple, for example?
Once you start on MDI, you may miss your snacks, however. Some people do improve their control on MDI, but not if you continue to snack between meals. The action time for novorapid is between 2 and 4+ hours, depending on the dose taken, so you have to avoid eating at very frequent intervals, as that can result in "stacking" doses (too close together), which causes hypos. I am on a pump now, I was on MDI for years, but I still miss the meal-snack-meal-snack-meal-snack pattern of mixed insulin days!
If you want to snack on MDI, it will have to be very low carb (eg. Salad) or very small protein (a single boiled egg, for example), as protein and fat, especially combined, may also require a bolus shot for a Type 1.
 
By changing my mid morning snack today and going 3 bike runs and a walk, i have managed to steadily keep my readings under 10 , usually in the 5-7 limit :) hopefully this is good right? XD

With those numbers I would not be snacking at all.
 
Then i go hypo.
If that's the case then you need to get off of that insulin and go on MDI as already suggested. Or look at what you are eating ie, match your food intake to your insulin which is more than inflexible.

Glad to hear it, perhaps consider investing in two books........... think like a pancreas and using insulin, both can be found on Amazon. :)

Because of here im already investing in a few books ! I have been reccomended the think like a pancreas one also, so i will get those thanks for ur advice! Helps a little man out :p

If you are usually that proactive, you'll do well on MDI, I reckon. And another book: Diabetic Athlete's Handbook. Good for sporty types.
