Hiiiiii,

Here's a mind boggler...

Yesterday at 5.30pm tea time my BG was 4.9... my ratio is 3:1 .. ate 4Cp's so had 12 units.. Great? nope. i should have allowed a little as i was a bit on the low side. (i aim to be in the 5's as this is where i feel comfortable)

went to bingo (i won by the way haha) and checked my BG's just before we started (don't want to hypo all over the place and have a room FULL of people why im wandering off)

BG's = 4.2 (thats when it dawned on me when i checked my diary i hadn't allowed a couple of units less for my tea time BG! ****!)

silly me...

anywayyyy.. as thats very almost hypo territory and i wouldnt be home for a while i have a bag of crisps... 1.7g or carb... so if i work to the theory that 1cp pushes your BG's up by 3mmol i should have been around 7... maybe 8. which is fine by me at the mo.

BUT an an hour later hypo hits. what the chuff? i thought okay maybe my crisps haven't started to get into my system i should have had some fast acting sugary stuff to help too... (treated this with glucotabs and a small choccie bar 1.5gcarb to keep me going) so again i should have gone up to at least 8

but i checked hourly from 8pm-11pm to observe and my sugar NEVER peaked. it didn't go above 6...

I'm well aware of honeymooning.. i've had diabetes for about 19 months now... but i've only recently say over the past 4 months actually started to gain control and took my insulin properly.

sop my Question is.....is it possible now i have good control my body is having a delayed honeymoon?

I know it's hot right now but my ratio's and background insulin have dropped too apart from teatime as apart from yesterday it was competely fine!

AND it wasn't even that hot here where i live...

I've been haing frequent hypo's lately and i'm currently re-adjusting to avoid these but i keep bouncing back into hypo's even though i usually have either 6 glucotabs and some slow acting carb depending on how far off a meal is... or around 250ml's of lucozade and slow acting carb..

and i recently had my DAFNE review and my DN is happy with my progress and improved HBA1c but she said she's worried about these hypo's because she doesn't want me to lose any of my hypo awareness if my body gets too used to being low...

Err.........
Might sound a daft question but what Crisps and what Choccie bar has only such small amounts of carbs per 100g ??

haha oh dear.

you'll have to forgive my typo's!

the . is in the place.. my laptop is very slow and skips letters sometimes, so things end up backwards is i delete and re-type but it acually doesnt type!

sorry.

but i guess the answer would be a very very small one

ebony,

At 4.2 I would have had 2 glucotabs and then eaten the crisps, don't forget that meters aren't 100% accurate, so you may well have been 4 or below by then. Also the fat content of the crisps would have had a slight delay in absorption, next time some fast-acting glucose then the snack!

Also, just remember as type 1's our insulin ratio's can change without explanation, so your ratio this week/month can be somewhat different the following, for now try reducing your tea time insulin by 2 units or increase your carbs by 2 cp.
