A few years ago, an AWACS was on an operational mission when one of the crew went down with "tummy troubles" shall we politely say.
He was put in the bunks to rest, and on the transit back to the Middle Eastern base, the flight deck radioed ahead to have a medic meet the aircraft and give the ill crew member a bit of TLC.
Imagine the surprise therefore to find a full medical team with ambulance and blue flashers escort the aircraft off the runway with a full resus team waiting to get on board. It would appear that the military hospital received the message that one of the crew had "shot himself".
