Hey Daniel
... In theory, yes -- but that largely depends on how proactive you are with your pump... The reason it can reduce hypos is because you can adjust your basal (background) insulin so easily to suit your needs at different times of the day -- but that comes with lots of tweaking that never fully goes away... And it also won't make a difference to hypos if you get your carbs to insulin ratio out when eating / bolusing for foods -- once it's in, it's in!
... Having said that you do also have the option to deliver mealtime insulin in different ways too -- according to what you're eating and how quickly you think it will digest -- again, that takes practice / tweaking to figure out...
The one feature I do love love love on the 640g is Smartguard -- which is brilliant for catching / stopping hypos caused by basal rates and activity etc -- but you'd need the cgm component for that... Do you know if you're getting it...? Some people get a few sensors whilst they start up and get settled into the pump -- if you're offered it, I'd say take it with both hands! Hope that helps -- I love my 640g!
Totally agree with Artemis,I have been on Medtronic 640 g and the CGM for three months,I have lost my Hypo awareness totally, there is vast improvement but it has been a lot of hard work and still have to tweak regularly.
