Miscarriage in first trimester

Miscarriage in early pregnancy is much, much more common than we appreciate, it's just if people haven't got past the 12 weeks and made an announcement, they might never tell anyone.

My DSN told me hypos don't hurt bump, they aren't any good for mum, but they won't do bump any harm. It's really really common for type 1 ladies to struggle with hypos in early pregnancy - all the hormones make things unpredictable.

It's just one of those unfortunate things. Definitely don't blame yourself. X

My wife also suffered a miscarriage some 26 years ago now, she isn't a diabetic. You shouldn't blame it on your diabetes or yourself.

We have 2 lovely daughters now, 25 and 23 years old.

You would be amazed at how many miscarriages occur, especially in the early part of the 1st trimester in the general population.

You are not alone on this one, and chances are it had nothing to do with your condition, there are a million and one other things that may have intervened this pregnancy. Honestly it's a wonder how the human race has proliferated with everything that could go wrong.

Take some time to accept what happened, be kind to yourself and then move on.

I really don't think it has anything to do with the hypo @slayer I had an early miscarriage and I kept trying to go through things I'd done to see if I could find a reason. But, as said above, miscarriages are surprisingly common. I read a figure that said 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriages. Remember too, that now we find out we're pregnant far earlier than ladies did in the past, so many women might have had miscarriages then and not even realised.

It's not your fault at all. Just one of those things sadly, but still horrible {{hug}}

You've asked about pumps. Yes, I think they do make control,easier in pregnancy (I have a pump) but many ladies have had successful pregnancies without one. It depends on how your control is, but also whether the stress of getting a pump and adjusting to a new regime would be something you'd want to deal with now. If you feel you'd be fine with it, then a pump is a good tool, but it's not crucial - injections will work too.

You also mentioned cutting out gluten and lactose. I wouldn't do this without checking with your doctor. If the bloating is bad and has been affecting your life, then certainly see someone and get it checked out. But I'd leave all that now, if you're not too uncomfortable and just concentrate on being kind to,yourself and getting over this.

Hello @slayer sorry to hear your news, it must be a very difficult time so I can understand your need to know more about what happened, it's natural to want to know answers. I don't have anything to add except, look after yourself and take each day as it comes x

Sorry to hear your news, I miscarried at 8 weeks, I had bleeding too and there was no heartbeat, so I had a natural miscarriage two days later at home, but then went on to have my lovely daughter in 2000, It's probably mother nature.

Sad to hear of your loss. Of course you want to know why it has happened but you will probably find that there are no reasons. Take care of yourself.

I haven't been back to work because I am so scared it might happen at work - I teach in a secondary school. I had a miscarriage between my 1st and 2nd successful pregnancies. My control was no different and I had hypos in all as that's the side effect of tight control.

I'm afraid miscarriages in many cases just happen but people don't talk about them. You are not to blame.

I ended up having an erpc as I didn't fully miscarry. It was all really unpleasantand distressing but you find ways to move past it and sincethen i've been blessed with another 3 children.
