Misdiagnosed as type 2 - how common is it?

I was diagnosed type 1 at 50. I had lost 25# s within a few months. ( I was skin and bones, discusting) I have been VLC for 25+ years so couldn't reduce cRbs much but meals kept getting smaller and smaller, exercise did nothing and bs was creeping up and nothing I did brought it down.

Of course everybody is different and certainly not all t2's are misdiagnosed and later diagnosed T1 but if you see these signs it would be great to get the 2 tests mentioned.

All the usual symptoms with 2 stone weight loss in as many months (down to just under 11st and I'm 6'2") got told I was type 2 because I'm over 35. After a year of struggling on metformin and a hugely reduced carb intake another Doc did a GAD test now I'm 'confirmed' as T1 and starting on insulin injections. At least I'm off metformin.

Apparently misdiagnosis of T1 as T2 in older patients is far from uncommon.
