Ask your doctor to send you to see diabetic team at hospital
To be hones sweet, I don't know what I would get out of it, all I really need is someone to literally sort out my LCHF way of eating to its maximum effort as I am struggling to find enough meals to sustain me through the day and it's getting a bit hard to not get disheartened with it though my sugars are motivation on a good day x

What kind of thing are you eating now MissMac? If not filling then you may need a bit more fat content maybe? Just a thought .

Sorry. I seem to be having issue with my laptop and things not posting in order. The thing I seem to be eating at the moment is salad...because I can't find whole meals!! Tonight though I am planning on attempting some meatballs and finally using the spirallizer though the other half won't eat it I know...am growing a bit bored of having to think for him as well so am gonna stop and just sort me out! That sounds horrid doesn't it? But I am quite exhausted from working my own meals out! xx

Nope I think you need to sort yourself out first.. like on the plane when they say fit your own mask before trying to help others..

the meat balls should be good.. just use egg to bind them and not flour or breadcrumbs.. have you seen the recipe for Nigella's Meatza? miss out the oats and that sounds pretty good to me.
You might even get the other half to have some of that!

Hi. Your nurse was partly right. Protein only has a small effect on blood sugar compared with carbs. I think testing 5-6 times a day is a bit on the high side unless you are on insulin. Increasing the Metformin depends a bit on your weight, If you have excess weight then it does help a bit to increase the Metformin but the biggest help comes from a low-carb diet. I didn't understand your point about cholesterol but again I think 3 months may be too soon as there isn't a lot you can actually do about the lipids ratios other than having a low-carb diet unless you believe in statins.
Thanks for your response.

I realise that carbs have a much bigger impact than proteins, but her comment suggested they had none! I understand that in some people the impact can be up to 50% that of carbs?

I don't intend testing 5-6 times daily forever, but in my current situation, where I'm making huge changes to my diet because of unsatisfactory HB's, I'm not sure why I shouldn't? And because of my diet changes, that's why I think checking my cholesterol at the same time as my next HB makes sense.

I'm not overweight, in fact not far off being underweight, and increasing Metformin is the last thing I want to do, given that one previous attempt at that back in the day was a miserable existence - couldn't function properly.

Strong, stubborn...either or. I am actually a nurse Martin and whilst my area of "expert" was not medical nursing I too, before finding here, believed the old sayings and the media rubbish about obesity=diabetes etc etc. I would have gone along with the complex carbs "eat well" if I had not been enlightened by the amazing, supportive people on here..I would be on medication. My point really? For someone who would fight for the NHS tooth and nail, I am now so disempassioned with it because of finding out how misinformed it is, I want out of it! I don't want to be part of that anymore..sad sad times! Though I don't feel sad!
I have to admit, I don't know what brittle diabetes is either though google is a wonderful thing! Thing is...if in 2 seconds I have a basic understanding why on earth are those who profess to be the gold standard and most knowledgeable not have the information? It just doesn't make sense. Yes keeping updated for GP's and to some extent practice nurses is very very hard BUT endochronolgists? (can't spell big words lol) and Diabetes specialist nurses? NO excuse..the are specialists, they should know more than the enitrity of google about everything around their chosen subject.....you do not specialise less you have a passion for that subject....sorry I know I am rambling, it just makes me so angry and embarrassed! x
sorry i dont get on the computer much as i dont have internet connection and my phone that a 6 year old can use but im baffled with has packed up in my last bad hypo as i dropped and so did the phone ,such is life, my mum was a private nurse dad was a medic in the forces and my older brother was a first aider in the t a and a ex girlfriend was a midwife at addenbrooke's so in a weird way ive been around nurseing all the time sort off and learnt a little and the biggest was respect for drs/nurses ect but my patience is thin now as i am not being listend to, the 24 i had a atos/esa test to whitch i had a hypo of 1.8 and they would not help me and i pannicked a bit and swore like a you know what ,dont know the outcome yet on the 25 i had to see my gp for test results of bleeding from the bowls well i could not believe my ears he said its little blisters popping its nothing to worry about and all your other organs are working fine so i advise you to socialise more and get a job and usherd me out the door , hes contradicted all my consultants and hes the one the dwp said they want to speak to, ive only seen the dr twice and i feel as though ive been punched in the face , afraid i have lost the fight as in all my will power ive been fighting illness since 2004 on my own and i am dog tired so i will wait and see what happens ..like talking with you your easy going , in the medical fiel covers a very large area i used to make microtome cryostats when i lived in huntingdon simple machine to use it cutting the bits off the body to put in thats the hard part ...a microme is a very basic machine ie turn one bit and another bit turns in time with the last i think some of the treatment of patience needs to go back to basics too and achieve a fine result x amount of times of ten . loves to all and will try to get back on tomorrow toodle pip 4 now

Current American Presidents.
Had a consultation with a nurse at the GP's today, and a number of her comments made me really doubt that she knew what she was talking about. Not an uncommon scenario, I'm guessing?

When she said "oh, I've got a lot to learn", it was quite difficult not to respond with a flippant remark, but this seemingly experienced nurse was at least right on that one!

Here are a few of her gems, and it wouldn't surprise me if maybe I had the wrong end of the stick on some of these, so happy to be corrected...................

Eating protein doesn't affect BS, only carbs.

There's no point in checking your BS' 5-6 times daily as a Type 2 (even though my HB was high last week, therefore I'm embarking on a new low-carb regime, which was exactly the reason I was there)

And with that in mind (higher fat diet), no need to re-check cholesterol in 3 months.

We should just increase your Metformin, you're on a fairly low dose!?

There were others that have slipped my mind atm, but I'll post them when they come to me.

Just seen mine: I told her I'd switched to Metabet Slow Release after problems with Metformin. She said "oh I haven't heard of that one....." D'oh!
