Misjudging Bolus

Hey all got a quick question, is there a way of working out how much I miss judged my bolus by? For example this evening my bs before my meal was 7.4, 3 hours after its 14.9 I ate around 100 carbs in my post workout meal and gave myself 9 units of novarapid. Can I work out how many units I should of taken?

Stu.

Hi Stu,
1 unit of Novorapid will cause a drop of 2-3 mmol/l. There's something called the 100 rule that can be used to figure out how much 1u of insulin will drop high sugar levels by. Total up your daily insulin dose (basal + bolus). Divide 100 by this number and that gives you the number you're after.

Its only approximate though. Mine comes out to be 3, but I know from experience that it is 2. After exercise though, your insulin sensitivity is increased so I'd minus an extra unit off from whatever Novorapid dose you calculate.

Going by this that means it drops me by 8..... I only take approx 12 units a day. 8 seems a lot!

Yeah not sure it works if you're in the honeymoon period. Two to three mmol/l is a good guide.
