Missed insulin dose

Hi there all.

I have a question regarding missing a dose. I've just realised I've run out of my night time insulin and have only been able take 16 of my 48 units of Lantus. Was wondering what I should do with having to go to bed. Should I take a small dose of my humalog to keep me going and if so how much? My bs is 8.2 now btw. This has never happened to me before in the 18 years I've been a diabetic so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi @philb666
welcome to the forum :)

this is a pain in the proverbial -- but in the big scheme of things not too catastrophic
personally i would set alarms at 1am , 3am , 5am -- do BG tests and take fast acting based upon the readings remembering to try and not stack fast acting insulin doses
get to the pharmacy in the morning :).

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I was just thinking exactly the same with regards the alarm thing and have set an alarm for 2 and I'll check it then. I've taken a small amount of humalog (6 units) hope that's enough to keep it down a bit. Thanks :)

realistically that is all you can do having no long acting in the building - haha

i would test every 2 hours and tweak with small doses at each test to ensure a good outcome for tomorrow AM
