Mixed sugar readings

Hiya :)

I was given a testing kit yesterday and I've been getting very varied sugar readings.
At 3pm yesterday my bloods were 8.1
Then 11.7 after a bowl of cornflakes when I got home,
Then 1.3 before bed ( I had peanut butter on toast for tea),
This morning they were 13.1
And now they're 15.6!

I thought I had an ok grasp on it all...apparently not!

Hi, glad you've managed to get a meter and hopefully a repeat prescription for test strips.

I have thrown out my cornflakes as the send my sugar levels sky high. Is the 1.3 your showing a typo and you meant it was 13.0 as if 1.3 that's very low and would need action.

I don't eat peanut butter and have no experience on what carbs it has, what sort of toast are you having white or wholemeal? I am having all sorts of trouble with bread at the moment, anything made with white floor is out o the question now and even have problems with some granary bread.

Now you have the meter, if you have enough strips, its worth testing for a short while at least what your BS levels are when you get up (fasting level before breakfast), then pre meal, and 2 hours after meals and before bed. Making a note of what you are eating, so you can build up a pattern of which foods cause the problems.

Unfortunately the same food does not effect us in the same way, bananas for me have little effect on my BS, while with others it can send their BS sky high.

Nope, no typo...they were 1.3! Least it proved that wholemeal bread doesn't affect me too much! I had a couple of biscuits and some sugary tea before bed, that was at about 10 o'clock last night.

I've been feeling a bit all over the place lately anyways...tired, irritable, then ok again. Wondered if it could be that my bs have been swinging?

I am not experienced enough with wild swings though when coming down from the 20's to normal I felt off colour, not my usual self but could not put my finger on anything specific, apart from the false hypos of sweating and shaking around the 5's. When I was filling in some forms and had a low of 2.9 noticed I felt a bit confused really sweaty and shaky,

I had wild swings to begin with too.

Your pancreas seems to be asleep then throws out a crapload of insulin when it feels like it @_@

This use to happen to me a lot but has lessened over time and the last hypo I had was down to alcohol.

A couple of people have suggested to me variations of type '1.5' that are more associated with varied blood sugar/swings. But I guess you need an actual doctor to find out what you are and how to deal with your BS patterns. Give em lots of this data to work with.

I was diagnosed a year ago now and I thought I had pretty good control. My BS seem to be settling a bit but they're still higher than they should be. Gonna have to seriously look at my diet again...possibly cut out everything I actually like.
