MODY 1 and pumping?

As far as I can tell the NHS only funds insulin pumps for some T1s (and not all who want it at that) - is that correct? Only I'm a MODY and the more I read about pumps and talk to health professionals about them the more I'm sure it could help tackle some of my problems with sugar control. However there's no way I could afford one myself. Do you think there's a point in asking, is there any centre which gives non-T1s pumps?!

Thank you!

Hi jennyb.

Not A T1, however found this information which may be of help to you. It is about a Pump Support Group in the UK. There are details about the organisation and e-mail links. Might answer some or all of your questions.

hope this helps. :D

Hi Jenny,

Have you looked at controlling your Blood sugar levels by an adjustment in your diet. That's the way most type 2s (and MODYs) are able to keep BS under control.

Hi Dennis,
In a large part my blood sugars are controlled by my diet, yes: I eat about 80g carb a day now, which has made HUGE differences to my blood sugars, particularly the post meal numbers. But I'm not sure I can cut it down more, I struggled to do that much! I also exercise lots (though I always have), at least 1-2 hours a day, again this has huge effects on my blood sugar - although unfortunately a lot of the time it can send me low as I am on long-acting medication and I can't get it to 'stop' working as it were.
However I have been on regular and increasing medication for several months now as my fasting sugars are still too high (particularly night and morning, I often go to sleep at 8-10 and wake at 10-13), and whilst it is working I am consistently (daily) having massive fluctuations in blood sugar. So sadly just diet and exercise doesn't fully manage it.
Although fact my last HbA1c was really good (5.5% in January), I think due to the low carbs and exercise driving my numbers down for much of the day.
Any suggestions for further lifestyle suggestions that might help though are much appreciated, I'll try anything that helps stop the highs and debilitating lows.
Jenny
