Thanks for posting this. It certainly is an interesting piece of research, although once again it seems to be a case of investigation of the symptom rather than the cause. It is still the autoimmune system killing off the beta cells that is the root cause. Presumably this is why the maximum reprieve that this treatment has managed is 4 years before insulin injections are needed once more. I imagine that is the amount of time it has taken for the immune system to identify and kill off the new beta cells. Now wouldn't it be better if there was some research into stopping the autoimmune system from destroying the beta cells in the first place?
To give an analogy, imagine you have a leaking bathroom tap that keeps flooding the bathroom floor. Do you fix the tap (the cause), or do you put a waterproof sheet on the bathroom floor to reduce the damage (the symptom)?
