More funny goings on...

Hi all, back again with more maladies, following on from my last foray of dodgy symptoms and stopping my statin things are pretty much.....unchanged :(

I've been suffering with chest pains (original cause for hospitalisation last December when Diabetes type 2 was diagnosed), dizziness, blurred vision on and off (and combinations of dizziness and blurred eyesight that make you think that its game over  ), cold flushes up my limbs, lack of coordination, a redness in my skin and various other symptoms, the whole lot except the rash come and go, normally we have a couple of weeks of them then they go for a few days to some degree before returning.

Since December I've had a week in hospital, numerous trips to the doctors (changed surgery after one doctor laughed when told of the symptoms), out of hours surgery at the local hospital, had blood tests which revealed nothing much apart from a high CPK level (reason for stopping statin), bs readings are mainly within the 5-5.2 range first thing and around 6-6.5 a couple of hours after eating, I've been told I had a virus on the ribs twice, an inner ear virus 3 times and that there's nothing to worry about once (as well as being told it may worry me but it doesn't worry the doctor).

I've been referred to see a diabetic specialist at the local hospital which will take 6-8 weeks and am due to return for more blood tests in a weeks time but in the meantime I've now lost my business (car transportation and recovery) due to not being safe to drive and obviously things at home are getting more than a little stressed with the wife having to be superhuman and spread herself in all directions, any ideas anyone?

Hi Andy,

What sort of chest pains are you having?

Is it in the center of the chest and feels like someone is sitting on your chest?

Do you sweat and have a "lump" in your throat when you have the chest pains?

Difficulty in breathing?

Does the pain get worse when walking or working?

Any pains in the jaw area, arms, back?

Hi and thanks for the reply, the chest pain doesn't get any worse with exercise, I've been having the pain while wired up to an ecg and it hasn't shown anything abnormal, it is mainly a weird sensation but I also have stabbing pains, mainly in the left side of the chest but some randomly to the right, also a heavy aching that comes and goes in my left arm.

I tend to have a cold sensation all over when the pains start and breathing is difficult but I think thats more of a paniccy type thing to be honest

Haven't noticed a lump in the throat at all.

The weird thing is that the symptoms randomly come and go, I've kept a record of what I've eaten, bs levels etc and nothing jumps out as obvious.

it could possibly be anxiety
i did used to suffer badly and it can cause many pains, if you have been checked over thoroughly then try not to worry :)

Before I had my first angina attack I used to have similar stabbing pains, sometimes left side only and sometimes both sides. After a chest xray I was told that I had osteoarthrities in the spine and the pain from that radiated to the front but never had any pain in either of my arms.

ECGs didn't show up any abnormalities either even after my attach until I took a stress test. I did not have chest pain during the test either but was told that there was something "not ok".

When I went for the angiograph the Doc said "don't worry, I'm sure there is nothing wrong" but afterwards he said "sorry but your LAD is blocked and you need a stent". 3 years later almost the same thing happened and they inserted a second stent within the first one which was 95% blocked.

Hopefully you are not going through the same.

Hi Andy,

Angina could be a cause of your symptoms, although I would be surprised if the checks you have had done haven't looked at this as a possibility. Another thing that springs to mind is what diabetes medication you are on. Much of what you have described can be a side effect of pioglitazone (Actos) and rosiglitazone (Avandia).

Thanks for the replies, they checked for heart problems and all's normal, my medication is 3 x 50 metformin a day and 1 x 75 mg Aspirin, I was on simvastatin before but stopped that around 6 weeks ago to discount this as being the cause without change, Andy
