I wanted to share some more good news with you all :D

Despite going through a fairly stressful time at the moment with hubbys job loss (and dealing with the DWP  ) and having quite possibly the worst flu I've ever had (seriously, I ended up with flu, laryngitis and gastric flu  ) my blood sugars have stayed fairly low; which surprised me as I was expecting them to go mental.

I had my 3 month check up with the BDEC consultant last week and he is IMPRESSED with how well I've done in such a short space of time (in 6 months my HbA1c has gone from 118 to 59!) and has said that as long as my next HbA1c is 53 or under (which it should be considering I've been having readings in the 4's, 5's and 6's lately...! Even had 3.9 last night, that wasn't fun, lol) I am 100% totally set to (finally) start trying properly for a baby.
He's got me booked into the pre-pregnancy diabetic clinic for January 4th and the best news of all came when I mentioned medication.

At the moment I'm on Victoza, Glimepiride and Metformin. The first two cannot be taken during pregnancy and BDEC were fairly sure I'd need insulin during that time to help my blood sugars stay low.
Now, I've had two pretty bad allergic reactions to Humulin I and Lantus insulin so I was a bit worried about this.
I asked the consultant if I could start insulin sooner rather than later as if I started during pregnancy and had another allergic reaction it wouldn't be good for me or for the baby. I honestly thought he would say "no" and dismiss me but he was really supportive and told me he commended me for thinking so far in advance and being so sensible :D

So I was quite happy with that and we came up with an action plan for the next month.
The best bit? He said so long as my HbA1c comes in on target next month I can stop Victoza AND Glimepiride and just add in an extra Metformin to my dose and (this is really the best bit) I MIGHT NOT NEED INSULIN!!!! :D :D

I was so pleased! If my sugars stay low just on Metformin they're happy to leave me on that so I am now keeping everything firmly crossed that there is good news next month!

Wow! That is good news BF. And you should be commended for the attention you've paid to your condition especially as you're starting a family. Sounds like you've got a plan and it's going accordingly. Happy baby making!
