This will probably have you all laughing but I'm going to ask anyway!
I moved to Spain just before Christmas and my diet, which is normally very good-I am gluten free, don't have much dairy and just generally try to eat well, went completely out of the window big time. I have been drinking nearly every day and eating loads of rubbish like GF bread (which I hardly ever had before), crisps, chocolate etc...and when I say loads I mean loads. Could this have temporarily caused my glucose to rise as it was always normal before? I did a Insulin Resistance quiz on line and got a pretty low score so I've got my fingers crossed but I think I'm clutching at straws :(

Also, I've read about Cider Vinegar and Berberine lowering blood glucose-has anyone any thoughts on this?

And finally, if you eat fat with carbs does that stop glucose spiking so much?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm determined to turn this around ASAP.

Sorry cmor16, but carbohydrates are what you can't deal with - eat them and the results will float around your bloodstream like the traffic on the M 25.
Chocolate which is high cocoa and low carb is OK in small amounts, for me at least, and when I eat berries I always have cream with them - but the bowl I use is actually a tea cup. The dairy foods are probably fine for most diabetics, we can cope with fat and moderate protein, but the carbs, I'm afraid, are always the problem, even when they have not been for a while - increase intake and things start to get silly again.

Thanks Resurgam, I have done loads of low carb in the past and know I have a problem with them so like many people this is a wake up call for me. I've just ordered a meter and strips so hopefully I will get this sorted. I wish I could lose weight a bit quicker though :(

I was normal weight at diagnosis and lost a stone and three quarters in a couple of months just by cutting almost all carbs. I am now classed as (just) critically under weight; I have stabilised at 7 stone but would ideally like to be about 8 but it seems without carbs this is my weight; arms like pipe cleaners!!!

I bought a trampoline - 20 minutes twice a day, stretching, bouncing - great for getting the heart going and with my mobility - bad knees and hips from a lifetime of hard knocks.

I live in a very hilly area, have dogs and no car yet so I'm walking loads

Lucky you, Arab Horse! I don't think I've ever been 7 stone in my life!

Actually I would rather be a bit heavier. In the gales in the winter I was literally blown over twice!!! I am also a bit thin to wear sleeveless t shirts. I always controlled my weight previously by refusing to buy a size larger jeans; when they were too tight to sit down comfortably I lost a few lbs so I yo yoed up and down between eight and a half and just under nine stones.
