An estimated 1.3 million diabetes patients are missing out on vital and potentially life-saving health checks, the BBC has learned.

NHS figures reveal fewer than 10% of patients are offered the full series of tests in some areas of England.

Just heard about this on Radio Four. Someone said that more people have diabetes than all of the cancers put together.

Another illustration that we're all costing the NHS too much money. We don't get to test our own blood (because it costs too much) and then when things inevitably go wrong, they won't spot it because the health-checks are too expensive too.

Once again it will only be those informed diabetics with sharp elbows that get the tests that they are entitled to.

Nice to see the media adopting pro-diabetic stance though.

Good spot Stephen. Sadly, the report doesn't mention blood testing. Perhaps I'll forward him (the reporter) a link to our e-petition.

They've just had a discussion on 5Live as well. The 'expert' talked about diabetics being sure that they get their tests and to do their own part by testing their blood sugars. That was the only mention of diabetics being able to test their own blood and of course no mention at all of the provision of testing strips being severely limited.

As I said in Viv's 'File on 4' thread those figures are quite shocking
