Morning fasting level query

Morning, I'm a little confused by my fasting levels and wondered if anyone can offer any advice please?

This morning I woke around 5.30am and popped to the loo. Went back to bed but was feeling a little hungry. Woke again at 7am and tested at 5.7. Ate 3 Brazil nuts before showering, drying hair and dressing. I tested again before breakfast (around 7.50) as I was beginning to feel a little shaky and irritable, I was 4.7.

Is it normal to drop so much in that short space of time (I know it could be the metre but there was a definite change in how I felt)? This happens quite often in the mornings.

I have a fasting blood test next week and I'm worried I might hypo beforehand!

Is there anything I could try to help keep me steady until breakfast? I have reactive Hypoglycemia so it would need to be something that doesn't cause me to hyper. Many thanks

Hi Kaz,
You may be overworrying this a little bit.
If you need to eat, have something that won't raise your bloods at all.
If you have to have a fast, then do one beforehand, just to see what happens.
My bloods just don't move, when fasting, but having T2 could complicate it a little, but Brun would no more.
Hopefully your fasting blood test will give you more of a clearer diagnosis.
Is it a hba1c test?

Hi Nosher, yes it's a hba1c plus cholesterol. I don't have T2, I'm hoping my blood test doesn't tell me otherwise! My morning bg levels have been all over the place lately ( 6.1 one day and 4.7 the next) and I've been feeling a little strange. I've no idea why!

I've never tried fasting. I always wake up hungry and after an hour I start to feel shaky. The doc did say if I was struggling then I could eat something that didn't contain fat. If I'm desperate I might have an apple.

I might stop testing my fasting level or perhaps test once a week.

Thanks

Sorry, Kaz, got mixed up.
I would try fasting, and by now you shouldn't be feeling hungry.
But I'm not sure why. Could be you're worried or anxious. Could be a bit of dawn phenomenon. I've stopped my fasting test as I've tested it so much and I now know when my bloods aren't right.
Try and be positive about the test as it will give you a normal hba1c.
Just to confirm diagnosis of RH.
