Morning Readings

this number i just quoted is from my yearly Hba1c test

That is excellent! It is only one point above the non-diabetic level.
Under 42 is non diabetic
42 to 47 is pre-diabetic
48 and over is diabetic.

You can't have fallen off the waggon by very much to have had that result. Well done.

does this mean that it might not be too late for me

Yes @Bluetit1802 is right. It's an excellent HbA1c. It's the same as my last one, but I am not so fortunate as you, I have to be much more careful than you to achieve the same.

Of course it's not too late for you. :) But take it seriously!

i was told by the DN i saw that even if i got it down to the lowest you can go im still type and always will be

Yes, you will always be diabetic, but you can have non-diabetic blood control. Plenty of people on this forum have non-diabetic levels, much better than yours, but they are still diabetic, and regular transgressions could well see them back to where they started. So please don't become complacent. You still have a lot of work to do - it is a life-time diet.

Well yes that's usually true, but if all you have to do to get 'normal' readings is eat a bit more healthily and exercise a bit more, what's the problem? That's what most people, diabetic or not, should be doing for their general health anyway. The advantage of the diabetic label is that you get things checked out regularly. A diabetic diagnosis doesn't have to be a bad thing, it's just a matter of how you look at it.

you see i was diagnosed 12 months ago and for a year up that date i was really hitting sweets to the point i felt unwell as i gave up smoking. before that i was pretty much on a normal healthy diet. i always wadnered if what i was doing the 12 months up till the day i was diagnosed caused a unusually high reading. as up till the i was pretty much healty all my life

i almost passed out when i was on hold to the doctors receptionist. i got to call back tomorrow for full results but i inisited that she told me the number as i would litterally freak out

6.8 is the old way of measuring HbA1c. This is the same as 51 in the new measurement, so you have reduced from 51 to 42 in a year.

i havent even been very good either and stlll been eating bad a lot of the time. so i assume that now if do the LCHF and loose the weight i could get down to normal levels

It has been recommended by a UK expert group that HbA1c values between 42 and 47 mmol/mol (6.0-6.4%) indicate that a person is at high risk of type 2 diabetes. There is a continuum of risk across a range of sub-diabetic HbA1c levels and people with an HbA1c below 42 mmol/mol (6.0%) may also be at risk. Recent National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance has recommended

i feel that this is the wake up call i needed. i stil have my kidney and liver test results yet

your right i know you are. and christmas is the hardest time to do it too. mainly i want to loose weigh been hard at it all year and not lost a bit. this i find most bizzare as 4 years ago i dieted and lost 4.5 stone. now working harder than then have lost only 4lb all year. Crazy or what, my doc said i should just go get the gastric bypass

Hi @turvell it might be worth having look at the low carb diet stuff on the forum and have a look at diet doctor on t'internet, it might work for you. Better than a gastric band!
