Hi all

After a little help off of you lovely people! I'm relatively new to diabetes, diagnosed type 1 6 weeks ago, currently on 18 lantus (am, due to working shifts) and novo rapid with meals (carb counting).

My problem is my morning readings are tending to be around 10-12 every day, despite a good bed time figure between 5-6, my daytime readings are all good too, rarely over 7?

I am giving a correction dose with breakfast which seems to bring things under control but surely there must be something off with morning readings like that?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. It sounds like your Lantus shot is too low, although with the injection being morning and not evening it is not easy to tell; Lantus like Levemir doesn't have a flat 24 hour profile. I would try to increase it only a little at a time every other day checking with the meter to avoid hypos. The Lantus by itself and fasting should just match the liver's background output. Many split their Basal but your shift pattern precludes that?

Thanks so much for your reply, it's just that I finish work at different times, between four pm and ten pm so not sure if that would work?

How would I go about it?
