Morning readings

Hi all,

I've been a type 2 Diabetic for about two years now. Initially I was on just two Metformin a day. Now up to 4, my recent HB1C reading was 4.7, just recently though I've noticed a high spike between waking up and my first meal of the day. Once my meds are taken in the morning and I've had my breakfast my sugars drop. What's the best way to combat high morning readings, this is a new development which I fear is my pancreas failing further more. I had excellent control for the first year or so. Thought I'd cracked it....

There is something called dawn phenomenon where your liver can give you a bit of a glucose rush to get you going in the morning. I only learnt about this myself quite recently thanks to @Brunneria who has some useful information about this. It may be something completely different and maybe others will have a view about it. You're sure to get more replies soon.
