Diet only
5.4 before the meal and 6.1 two hours after.

Ate garlic bread,

Moussaka with rosemary potatoes (lots of)

Millionaire shortbread.

That's a HUGE amount of carbs for me and normally I eat 50g in an entire day.

I'm not complacent but I feel like I've beat diabetes....

I'll be back to low carb tomorrow as I prefer that lifestyle tbh but it feels so good to know that it's ok for my body to have these occasional very high carb indulgences without any apparent detrimental effect.

Hmmm maybe - did you test at 3 and 4 hrs? Lots of fats as well as carbs could be the fat slowing it down e.g. Pizza effect - but it's a one off and if you are back on track tomorrow then yes you probably got away with it this time - glad you had a lovely day:)

Just done another test at 3hrs and it came back at 5.4

I don't think for a minute I could eat like this every single day but I 'feel' like my beta cell function has improved in the 3 years since diagnosis as a meal like that early on into my low carb lifestyle would have without doubt give me a reading in the 7's or 8's.

I rarely test these days unless I have a very out of the ordinary day such as today.

@VinnyJames
They are very encouraging results and I would be excited as well. Perhaps you need to try another carb blowout to see if the results are repeated.

It sounds promising :) but do go back to your normal LC diet. It's easy to get complacent, but lovely to know you can have a blow out occasionally.

Well done - but take the advice of others (I've already read their replies - stick to the long term plan but have the occasional blow out on special occasions.

This has happened to me. I've lost about 1.5 stones and since then i've never seen any BG tests over 7.5 regardless of what I eat. My last HBa1C was 39 so like yourself I am testing naughty foods to see what happens. Fingers crossed nothing yet has any drastic spikes

I seem to be able to eat more carbs too - I had sausage and mash with baked beans for tea last night and was 5.6 at 2 hours and down to 5.4 at 3 hours!
