How long do the side effects of Mounjaro last? I've been on the starting dose 2.5 mg for 3 weeks now (3rd injection on Saturday) and I can't hold anything in. It just goes straight through my gut and ends up with being on the toilet for hours on end.

My DN, GP, Pharmacist, Hospital Doctor all said the same thing to wait out the side effects and take loperamide after each episode and not eat much. But it's getting to the point now, where I don't have any control of my bowels and have had multiple incidents where I can't even enjoy myself outside of my house.

My.blood sugars have been fine and I've reduced all aspects of my diabetic medication to 0, apart from taking Creon and Tostran.

Hi @akindrat18 .
Sorry you are having this difficulty. Also sorry I have no experience of Mounjaro. Hopefully someone who has will see your post and be able to comment based on their own experience with this med.

From your previous forum posts, I see you seem to have had digestive gut problems a lot previously. Can you be sure it is the Mounjaro causing the problem you have. Is there anything else going on? What are you eating? Has your doctor suggested investigating other causes?

My doctor hasn't investigated any further into my digestive gut problems, but I have been to the hospital with them and apart from putting me on a drip of fluids for 2 hours and performing blood tests, which have all comeback positive, there are no further actions being taken by my doctor or the hospital. Even if I eat a small amount of food, I then spend copious amounts of time rushing to the toilet, as I simply can't hold any of it down.

I've requested to get in touch to see a dietitian about it, as there was one day when I only had 3 fruit pastilles to keep my blood sugars from dropping too low.

I've also lost over a stone in 3 and a half weeks since starting it. I've gone from being 19 stone 2 pounds to now being 17 stone 12 pounds.

Hi notice this post via a Google search and thought I'd share my story.
In February my DSN put me on Mounjaro starting at 2.5. My sugars started to drop down to below 3 mmol and insulin was reduced from 70 units to 60 just after the 3rd dose of 2.5 strength I was at 54 units with blood sugars on waking at 2.2 mmol. When I began the 5mg dose I had already lost 5kg and insulin reduced again. This continued until I was down to 14 units of insulin and back within normal range except I had started to feel sick all the time and had slowly become unable to think of eating without being sick. By the middle of June all I could tolerate was water and had no energy I was 88kg by then. On 20/6/2025 my son called for an ambulance, I passed out on the way to the hospital, woke up in ICU attached to various drips. The Diabetic Consultant later told me I'd had Euglycaemic DKA and told me not to take any more weight loss injections. The Mounjaro not only affected me physically but also psychologically.

Thanks for sharing. I hope you're recovering well now?

How are you today @akindrat18 ?

Still not tolerating any kind of food at all. Had some plain cooked chicken pieces from a Sunday Roast and my stomach is still giving me diarrhoea. I've laid of diet coke and just drinking water or rehydration solutions. My blood sugars have been stable without the need for insulin, but I've just woke up after a nap, soiled myself and feeling nauseated.
