Hello just after a bit of advice really so any will be appreciated!
I've been taking 2 injections of humalog morning and eve for 18 years (my whole diabetic life!) but I've agreed to change to taking 4. I know it'll be explained to me when I see the doc on weds but I haven't had any mention of carb counting to adjust insulin or if there are particular times when u have to do your injections or if u always have to take 4!
Sorry that it sounds a bit like an interrogation lol thanks, Laura
Hi Laura. It seems such a big change but I think after a short while you'll wish you'd done it years ago.
There is no need to take 4 injections. If you have 5 meals, have 5 injections. If you only eat twice, take 2.
The carb counting will be explained, your nurse should give you a carb to insulin ration. I think the avg is approx 10g of carbs for 1 unit.
As for when to inject, it can get complicated when you learn about GI value of foods but to begin with, I wouldn't worry too much. I tend to inject 5-10 mins prior to eating.
Good luck !

It is much easier and you should have more control over your BG levels.
If you fancy a treat, inject more. If you only eat an omelette, no carbs, no injection.
