Muscle Pain from statins?

Jury is out.. although many people do question their efficacy.. personally nothing would persuade me to take them.

I have taken them for about 10 years also but have never had any muscle pain but some I think do

Definitely and often debilitatingly for many people on the forum - but fortunately not for me while I was taking them. There was a huge thread/poll about this a couple of years back that might be if interest if you like to do a search back for it.

I have taken them for 2½ years and have had no muscle pain at all. No other side effects either.

Do statins really cause muscle pain ?
@lorettagee80, Hi there,I started on Statins & after about 12 days I was in agony trying to get out of bed & felt like I'd been in a fight. So wondered why this all of a sudden? Stopped taking last prescribed Meds, Statins & in three days was back to normal.
GP says the'll try me on another make, so we'll see if these are any better but if not, they can stick um. (Squeekyboy) Steve

Why does the doc think you need them, out of interest?

@bulkbiker, Hi there, he thinks I could have a stroke due to high Cholesterol & being T2.but it could also be due to me having a DVT & PE twelve months ago. Squeekyboy (Steve)

There is a blood test that can be ordered to see if Statins are causing muscle pain.

Muscle effects
Statins can occasionally cause muscle inflammation (swelling) and damage. Speak to your doctor if you experience muscle pain, tenderness or weakness that can't be explained (for example, pain that isn't caused by physical work).

Your doctor will carry out a blood test to measure a substance in your blood called creatine kinase (CK), which is released into the blood when your muscles are inflamed or damaged.

If the level of CK in your blood is more than five times the normal level, your doctor may advise you to stop taking the statin. Regular exercise can sometimes lead to a rise in CK, so tell your doctor if you've been exercising a lot.

Once your CK level has returned to normal, your doctor may suggest that you start taking the statin again, but at a lower dose.

Crucifyingly bad pain for me on two different types of statins. Destroyed my leg muscles to the point where after 3 months was struggling to walk/drive.

Came off them against gp's advice, and am now back to pre-statin health; it has taken over 6 months to build my muscles back up though.

It doesn't affect everyone, but for those it does, it can be very debilitating.
