Fair enough, I think it's just the context of Cash's life at the time.

Have to disagree, Johnny's take on the song was much more powerful and emotional than Nine Inch Nails, maybe the video looking back on his life made it more so.

Off the top of my head , got a couple of their songs on my playlist!


Will ask again for the diehard fans of music, who had a one hit wonder on Motown with 'under The Boardwalk?
 

Of course the fantastic Edwin Starr, and what a track Never mind government politicians sitting in conference discussing the shocking state of the world we live in, and sending troops in to other countries play Edwin Starr's.......... War ! What it is good for? absolutely nothing.....................

Will still try to do my list, but it's going to be difficult trying to choose. ps the Lee Dorsey track is ' Working in a coalmine'
 
He had another hit around the same time called 'War' my favourite of his is called 'Time'.
Saw him live at 'The Wookey Hollow' in Liverpool!



Still waiting for someone to tell me the answer or even guess, to whom sang the song 'Under the Boardwalk, originally sang by The Drifters

Went Top Rank in Liverpool, that was some place!
Been to quite some places in my teens, never got around to Wigan Pier tho!

Think I missed out on something!

Oh my goodness, I loved The Liquidator, and what about Dave and Ansell Collins and the great tune Return of Django . Love the old Rocksteady stuff, Ska, reggae, it's Jamaican music from it's roots
 

I'm sure it was The Drifters, who did under The Boardwalk nosher and erm Bruce Willis did it as well

We used to get the train and go to Reading's Top Rank, so exciting and cool ( at the time) and the 70's clothes, well
 
I remember the ska, when you could dance together all races, and fads and styles came together and celebrated Jamaican music.
Skinheads, the original, not the racists, bouncing to the early Madness songs, the Mods.etc. good times!

I have loved posting on this fantastic thread, the wonderful memories have taken me back in time and is making feel a little choked up right now, but in a good way Music gets to the soul
