Did anyone watch this programme last night?

It was about people who had lost a lot of weight and were left with large amounts of excess skin. Some were lucky and got an operation on the NHS to remove the skin but some did not fit the criteria.

I really admired Gregg who was refused the operation but far from being deterred he tried every which way to raise the £8,000 he needed to go privately. He even did the Tough Mudder and people sponsored him to raise the funds for his operation. Eventually his parents stepped in and made up the total he needed.

It changed his life so much, a young man who is now looking forward to the kind of life that other people take for granted.

It really surprised me that people who had really gone out to lose a load of weight through their own endeavours and yet the NHS would not help them. If they had not lost the weight then they would have cost the NHS a fortune in the following years.

I wondered if they were left with all this excess skin because they had lost the weight too quickly?
 
Yes, I watched it! I admired Gregg for his attitude rather than relying on the NHS to sort out his problems which he admitted were as a result of overeating. Unfortunately the excessive skin is just due to the amount his skin had stretched whilst he was so big and most doctors would agree that no amount of exercise would get rid of it. I think his parents were also wonderfull and I was glad he had such a good outcome. Weren't the 'testicles' revolting - poor woman!
 
Yes, the woman with the "large testicle" shaped excess skin really needed the operation. She called it Fred. I couldn't imagine what it must have been like to try to move around with Fred. When she had it cut away it weighed, 30lbs!!

Didn't you think the Tough Mudder challenge was a measure of determination, such a hard challenge. I think even super fit people would see it as an immense challenge.
 
I watched the programme too and really felt for those people. I think if the NHS is willing to pay for gastric weightloss surgery to save them money in the long term then they should be willing to pay for the removal of excess skin in these extreme cases.
 
It was a pity the first thing the lady did after getting rid of FRED was to be seen eating fish and chips this is the sort of thing that upsets people seeing that she had the operation on the NHS

I watched this on demand and thought the young lad was amazing. The large hanging well balls of skin from the woman was awful.the fish and chips were more cos they were sat at the beach I feel. Beach and fish and chips are the ultimate treat.sadly one I won't have again :nailbiting:
