Hi everyone, newly diagnosed T2 here. Just wanted to share my first LCHF day with you and see if I am heading on the right track for weightloss?

Breakfast, warm water and lemon, celery, cucumber and carrot sticks

Lunch, chicken breast mixed with mayonnaise with salad leaves and capers with olive oil dressing

Dinner, two egg omelette with buttered mushrooms and cheese

Drinks, water and one can of diet coke. 2 glasses of white wine

I know I should drop the wine (will tomorrow) but is everything looking ok?

Thanks everyone,
Gem x

From my limited understanding of LCHF, I'd say that looks like it's lacking in fat. You'll be starving on that breakfast... no fat at all. And there's not much high fat about lunch either. Definitely need to up the intake IMHO.

Oooh goody, I can do that! My chicken was shredded and tossed in mayonnaise though, must have been a zillion calories!

Hi Gem

I'd up the breakfast protein and fat myself, bacon/egg/mushroom/tomato is my default, otherwise you might find your liver starts producing extra glucose to compensate! You could also alternate that with omelette or Greek yoghurt and a few berry fruits. As for wine, a glass of dry white is OK, red also.

Well done for starting on the journey!

I try whenever I have time to have scrambled eggs. Sometimes with cheese or made into a frittata with veggies. Yes I love mushrooms. Protein enough fat ( good ones).. or full fat greek yoghurt with blueberries. I've learned the hard way that you do need the fats. Ie butter olive oil or coconut oil else my readings just go up. Its a good idea to have a meter to test before you eat then 2 hrs after. Then you get a good idea what can make your readings go too high. Good luck though.

I'll make sure I have eggs tomorrow, I plan to have this:

BF: scrambled eggs
L: chicken and coleslaw in mayo
D: beef patties with cheese

This sound ok?

Check the total carb content of the slaw/mayo, some are loaded with sugar.

Beef patties - burgers, right? - make sure they are nearly all beef and not padded out with cereal.

But the fundamental thing is to check the impact of all meals at first with your meter, then you learn what is best to eat and what needs to be avoided.

I make the slaw and bought the Paul Newman mayo, really low carb and mixed it altogether.

I will make the burgers from beef mince with red onion, Dijon mustard, oregano and Parmesan cheese...

God I'm starving!

Me too, can you fax me some?

Remember, you want to eat until you are satisfied! And fat fills you up nicely, so don't be afraid of fat.

What counts as acceptable fats? I'm presuming the following

Olive oils, avocado oils, coconut oil etc
Butter
Eggs
Cheese
Nuts (small amount)

What are some others I can use easily in my day

I'm a mum of 2 young kids and I work full time, don't have lots of spare time to be cooking up a storm

You're all so helpful, thank you x

Lard, of course, and duck and goose fat. Cream is something you might want to save for special occasions, it is rather high in carbs. This applies mostly if you want to loose weight.

Nuts, some are high in carbs and also high in protein, so check the nutrient content for the different kinds.
I use a lot of shredded coconut, 3.5 grams of carbs, 6.5 protein and 63 grams of fat per 100 grams.

And drink extra water and if you feel ill and dizzy, have some extra salt, it helps.

Avocado, sometime I have an avocado with some taco spiced (home made) beef mince, delicious.
Double cream and full fat creme fraiche.

MMMMMMMM .....duck fat

(I probably wouldn't have 3 glasses of red wine every day though ;))

Oh Man! I knew there would be a catch! Right off the wine tomorrow...promise!!

lol I usually stick to a couple of glasses two or three times a week, but it's whatever your system is comfortable with. Cheers!
