Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
Hi, my husband was diagnosed yesterday with type 2 diabetes. He is 81 years old and otherwise quite healthy but I am struggling as to what to cook etc so any help or useful cookery book recomendations would be very gratefully received. I do all the cooking and shopping so a bit overwhelmed at the moment.
Regards

Hello, @jeaarm , and welcome.
Lots of info for newly diagnosed in my signature. Just scroll down beneath the post.
Lots of members here manage their T2 diabetes by reducing the carbs in their diet. This is fine and very effective, as long as not on medication that can cause very low blood glucose, (hypo). So they ease up, or cease althougether anything sweet, (including a lot of fruit,), starchy veg -root veg, rice, pasta. Don’t be afraid to increase fats such as butter, full fat milk and yogurt.

Plenty of recipes can be found on the diet doctor website.
I am sure you will find it just as useful as any cookery book.

Hi @jeaarm .

Welcome to the forum .
Husband's lucky to have you looking out for him.

Well done finding what I think is THE Best forum around for diabetics, particularly type 2.

It would be a great help if you could post in a typical weeks meals for hubby.

What foods and how many meals ?

The foods will help others guide you to some alternative choices.

And many find reducing the number of occasions they eat to be very useful .

I went from almost constantly eating, to maybe eating once, sometimes twice a day without the incessant hunger I had pre diagnosis.

Good luck finding ways to manage the changes required.
Bonus is the group's real friendly and many will point you happily to better choices.
