Hi my name is Julie-Ann and I'm 22 years old.

Was diagnosed with type 1 on 02-10-09.

By this point I'd lost alot of weight (11 stone 5 lbs to 8 stone), I was downing about 6 litre bottles of lucozade in a day (anything i could get my hands on really), constantly going to the toilet and going for a lot of naps. I'd get up almost 10 times a night for the toilet and I drank so much I felt sick but couldn't stop myself!

When my blood sugar levels were over 32 at my GPs I was sent to the diabetic centre up at my hospital.

I work on the railway and I am not allowed on track by myself anymore. I'm currently waiting for the all clear from Bupa before I am allowed back on the line.

Not had a hypo in months which is good and I have been going to the gym almost every day and my diet is a lot better. My insulin intake has lowered a lot from last year as well.

My readings could be a bit lower though which is why I have joined this forum. Mainly to look around for the tips and tricks of those more experienced.

I use novorapid 3 times a day (currently on a ratio of 1 to 10 carbs) and 6 units of lantus at night.

Thanks :-)

hya and a warm welcome,
you may be honeymooning if you arent needing as much insulin as b4,
what results are u seeing before and after food?
hope to chat soon :D

Hi and thank you.

Before meals I am generally around 6 however I do range from 4 - 11. After meals I couldn't really tell so much as I test before meals and before bed. Don't tend to test in between unless I feel the shakes or a sore head. You think it is a good idea to test after a meal? Well a couple of hours after or so?

My insulin intake has decreased as I have been going to the gym a lot. I used to be a couch potato . I reduce my intake or have no insulin at all (depends on how many carbs I eat beforehand) if I am going to the gym and vice versa if I haven't been.

My background insulin was also decreased due to exercise as I was having hypos at similar times each day.

I am high (I have ranged to a highest of 16) before I go to bed but that sorts itself out by the time i wake up (back to around 5 or 6). I have been told not to go to bed with a bg reading lower than 8 though.

I really want my levels to stay under 10 at least most of the time and I can't seem to get a handle on it. I eat low GI foods most of the time, not perfect, but I just feel as though I should be getting better results.

Sometimes on a similar day I'll have the same thing for breakfast, similar activities, yet at the same time after having the same amount of insulin, before lunch sometimes I'm high sometimes I'm just right. Don't get it, it is very hard to get right and I am doing most things the way I was told. :x

It's frustrating as I do try. I am finding this site very helpful though and interesting! :D
