Hi everyone,
I just wanted share my results with you from my diabetic review today:
Latest Results July 2014: January 2014:
HbA1c 46 HbA1c 63 HbA1c 88
Cholesterol 4.33 Cholesterol 4.50 Cholesterol 6.14
I discussed my medication with him - I am currently taking Metformin 2x500mg 3 times a day and 2x80mg Gliclazide 2 times a day. I told him about the terrible stomach/bowel issues I am having and he has changed them to the the Metformin 1g modified-release kind to be taken once a day with my evening meal.
He was really pleased with my weight loss - Since September I have lost another 3.5 kgs. I still have a lot to loose but I feel empowered to do better. The DN wasn't sure that LCHF was the way to go, but the Dr said that as all my results look good and I have my diabetes under control he is happy for me to continue doing what I am doing. He suggests that I set a cap on the number of calories I am consuming - to help speed up the weight loss and suggested around 1500 a day and to look at reducing this amount every time I loose 3kg but not to go lower than 1200. (woohoo no new castle diet for me!!)
I asked about getting test strips on prescription - and he said that currently he is not allowed to give them to me - but he will bring it up with the other partners at the practice as he said that obviously the testing has help me to gain control. I bought my meter at the beginning of August and received it about the 2nd week of August. I then went on holiday to the states for 3 weeks in September and didn't strictly follow the low carb diet fully (I ate chips) until I came back on the 2nd October. So without a doubt I now know that LCHF is the way to go (for me).
I have to go back in January for another HbA1c test - to ensure that the new drugs are working out okay and that I'm still managing but I am happy with that.
So thank you.... before I found this site I was convinced I was going to die a slow and painful death from this illness, I was depressed and feeling very sorry for myself.. Now I know better, feel better, am starting to look better so I am eternally grateful to you all, for all the help and support you have provided to me through this wonderful site and all your incredible knowledge.
Thank you
Kerry
