Hi everyone,

I just wanted share my results with you from my diabetic review today:

Latest Results July 2014: January 2014:
HbA1c 46 HbA1c 63 HbA1c 88
Cholesterol 4.33 Cholesterol 4.50 Cholesterol 6.14

I discussed my medication with him - I am currently taking Metformin 2x500mg 3 times a day and 2x80mg Gliclazide 2 times a day. I told him about the terrible stomach/bowel issues I am having and he has changed them to the the Metformin 1g modified-release kind to be taken once a day with my evening meal.

He was really pleased with my weight loss - Since September I have lost another 3.5 kgs. I still have a lot to loose but I feel empowered to do better. The DN wasn't sure that LCHF was the way to go, but the Dr said that as all my results look good and I have my diabetes under control he is happy for me to continue doing what I am doing. He suggests that I set a cap on the number of calories I am consuming - to help speed up the weight loss and suggested around 1500 a day and to look at reducing this amount every time I loose 3kg but not to go lower than 1200. (woohoo no new castle diet for me!!)

I asked about getting test strips on prescription - and he said that currently he is not allowed to give them to me - but he will bring it up with the other partners at the practice as he said that obviously the testing has help me to gain control. I bought my meter at the beginning of August and received it about the 2nd week of August. I then went on holiday to the states for 3 weeks in September and didn't strictly follow the low carb diet fully (I ate chips) until I came back on the 2nd October. So without a doubt I now know that LCHF is the way to go (for me).

I have to go back in January for another HbA1c test - to ensure that the new drugs are working out okay and that I'm still managing but I am happy with that.

So thank you.... before I found this site I was convinced I was going to die a slow and painful death from this illness, I was depressed and feeling very sorry for myself.. Now I know better, feel better, am starting to look better so I am eternally grateful to you all, for all the help and support you have provided to me through this wonderful site and all your incredible knowledge.

Thank you
Kerry

Well done Kerry, another LCHF success story :)

And your cholesterol is also down to what I would regard as a normal level.

Thank you, Thank you... I feel really good about this, but I know that I would have never got here on my own. Its only by reading everything that you guys have posted on here that I got the courage to give it a go and I truly am amazed with the results. Now the hard work begins, not only to keep loosing the weight but also to keep my BS stable.

Well done, that is a brilliant improvement, both bloods and cholesterol. You may have received great advice on here but it was you that did all the hard work. Be very proud of yourself

Great results . Keeping tabs on calories as well as carbs is good advice and adjusting amount consumed with weight loss likewise x

Wow- big well done kezza !! Hope you are very proud of yourself? You should be! I'm with you on it being part to do with the forum and all the information, advice and support.......but then we are the one that have to do it ultimately, so take a bow:singing:

Thanks Kimbo, I am proud of myself, but I know I still have a long way to go. I celebrated last night, not with my usual choccy bar or a large muffin, but with berries and double cream and a few chopped nuts on top. Its good to be able to have things I like that feel naughty but are not actually bad for me.... I love that my mind is also enjoying the LCHF diet too... on the way home from work tonight, I plan to buy all the thinks I need to make one of @Scandichic desserts...

Isn't it fab how we now have something we would have previously thought "bad" like berries and double cream?? When I grate 90% dark chocolate on top it looks so very indulgent!! I tried the "mug cake" last weekend, 2 mins in microwave, fed raspberries on top and cream.....less than 8gm carbs:)

good job, if the slow release metformin goes ok, I would talk to the dr about 2000 a day and you may be able to reduce the gliclazide a bit

Hi Folks
I've not been on this forum for a year or so but felt the need to get some advice from people who have been through the tablets to injections transition! Last 5 years for me personally have been hell, and I've let my BG control slip a tad. Last HbA1c was 61 and this time round had gone up to 65. Cholesterol also up to 4.9 overall. I was putting on weight 6 months back so my consultant put me on dapagliflozin and now I'm a respectable 76kgs, with a good BMI for a six-footer! Also have been on Metf 500 x2 a day and sitagliptiin 100 x1 a day.

Because my BG had risen my consultant suggested I go on Lantus injections (one at night) as he didn't think I could get my BG levels down with diet. I have left my diet slip and know there is room for improvement, esp with carbs.

I thought the threshold for insulin injections was a score of 75. Has anyone been put on insulin for similar levels to me? Also, are there any grave implications re driving? I know I'll prob have to notify DVLA that I'm on insulin. Has anyone been able to get reasonable life assurance when on insulin? I've failed miserably with these high readings on tablets and need to get something sorted ASAP.
Sorry for epistle. All advice greatly appreciated. Glenn.
