When I was looking over my records, one of the figures that was glaring out at me was the repeat prescriptions. It had a comparison between my usage, and the average.Apparently I'm greater than 1000% (yes one thousand percent) higher on strips than the average T2.
Not sure if that means I'm OCD, or other T2's don't test, or simply can't get strips.
I think its more that most type 2. Have to buy their own strips and although some get them on script its only 50 a month usually. You are very lucky to have so many more on your prescription

Well, back from the market.
A few pints, a whiskey, bag of chestnuts, bag of pork scratchings, home for a few more glasses of wine, a slow cooked mince, and veg, and another chocolate hobnob.
and 4.6

And I really have to say, when I read fat is satiating, I would dare to suggest it's only on par with any other food.
These were freshly cooked pork scratchings.
A normal 80g bag has about 600 calories.
This was a paper bag, no weight specified, but I would guesstimate at maybe 3 or 4 times a normal bag, it felt about 300g, so say 2500 calories.
(Imagine putting a pig through two rollers, squeezing out the edible bits, and the crunchy bits, then baking what was left.)

Did I stop eating, - not a chance!
They were lovely.

Did I feel full, - yes, about 1/2 way in. (maybe a 1/4)
Did I feel hungry later, yes, about the same as any other food, of that quantity, (apart from the fact fat tends to repeat a bit)

But it's a weekend off, and I'll treat the fat as food, I've been excessive today, I'll make it up next week.

And my BG came back at 4.8 after that lot, and tonight I'm invited to the local with the friends I made here in summer, so I think I'm probably cashing in calories up to Christmas Eve at the moment.

You are doing well !!!

And managing very good control of BG as well :)

Are you sure you're diabetic? After all that food I suspect a non-diabetic's blood sugar would have been higher than yours.

Sorry, I should have said "still diabetic". Perhaps your weight loss has been enough to reverse your diabetes (i.e. Professor Taylor's theory).

Michael Gove and his insane educational? policies!
Well, I hope we've all had a good day, and enjoyed the food where we can.

For me, too much fat but I loaded up on omeprazole this morning, so it's good. A one off won't kill me. :)

Breakfast was pork pie, onwards from that, cheese. crackers, fudge, chocolates, pringles, crisps, honey brandy (?), brandy, wine, cava, whisky, mince pies, christmas dinner, stuffing, potato, pretzels, pigs in blankets, crisps.

I started the day a bit high on 5.9, (from a low going to bed), got to 7.9 after all the food, (and, obviously asleep during the queens speech :) )
A run upstairs to get my teenager back down, and it's a 5.7.

So life is good.
I will have a bit of the excesses to balance next year, but I can watch the scales, count the calories, and if needs must, a few more shakes even.
But that's a week away, so until then, let's all keep having a good time!
How! 9.1 for me! Quality street and Christmas pud! Back in lchf tomorrow! Merry Christmas and a big hug! Glad you are keeping well. Shark pictures still scary! Can you believe we have known each other for almost a year?! Merry Christmas and a big hug and a THANKYOU for being so kind, scandixxx

I must admit that diagnosis has given me a new lease of life too. Hubby and I now often go out for a drive and a walk round somewhere new whereas before I never walked anywhere.

I think the fish and chips kickstarted my pancreas again.

5.6 this morning, and now it's 4.6 after dinner.

Not tested in between, as I was putting someone's bath back in, from a leak over Christmas, then looking at another bathroom later.
I would have taken the entire holiday off, but some jobs can't wait!
But good enough figures for me though.
The only problem I have is the jeans are getting tighter, so it'll be back on the calorie counting shortly, and more intensive exercise.
I wish fish and chips did that for me :(

I'm really enjoying reading about your adventures and seeing your pictures. I am even a bit jealous of your snow. In southern Ontario we only have a dusting.

Just looking at the average readings from my meters now the holidays over.

Not too bad.
My HbA1c of 5.3/5.4 should give me an average of 6 on the meter.

Two meters,
I don't favour any meter, just use whichever is handy, and they're both the same meter.

1st reading, number of days average over, 2nd meter reading.

6.1, 7, 6.6
6.5, 14, 7.0
6.5, 21, 6.8
6.6, 28, 7.1
6.8, 60, 6.8
6.7, 90, 6.7

So, the last 7 and 14 days average is nicely in there, and doesn't seem to have been any worse for me.

The overall average of 6.7 does give me a slightly higher calculated HbA1c at 5.8% though.

I'm actually pleased to see that.
As I know I chase bad readings, and often duplicate them, I expect my meter to be reading higher due to this.
And they are indeed higher, so I'm fairly sure I'm getting all the peaks, and missing the lows, so onwards (but not upwards) to more of the same in 2015 I hope.

I hope these averages work for you as regards anticipating your HbA1c. They haven't worked for me for my last 2 HbA1c tests. I was disappointed with both of them.

3 month average from my readings ending Sept. 6.68. HbA1c was 45 (7.4mmol/l)
3 month average from my readings ending December 6.16. HbA1c was 43 (7.1mmol/l)

I also chase my worst readings. I also test most meals at 1hr. 2hrs and only if necessary continue half hourly. I go to bed on low 5's and I get up much the same most days with just an odd blip to high 5's. On the few occasions I've tested during the night I am still low 5's. so for at least 9 hours a day I am in the 5's, plus pre-meals with some 4's.

Have your own readings matched your HbA1c's before?.

I don't fully understand the mechanics behind it but don't forget that a given HbA1c doesn't really equate exactly to a given BG average- individuals cn have the same Hba1c with very different BS levels- if your blood cells don't die off in usual time frame or die off too quickly then your test will be affected.

Yes, I know. I am going to discuss this with my nurse on Tuesday because although I'm not in the slightest bit anaemic, my red blood cells are larger than average. They are within the normal range but bordering on the high side of the cut off. As they are larger than average, perhaps this means there are less of them, or they have unusual properties that might affect HbA1c. Perhaps I am expecting too much of my nurse to be able to tell me the answer though! I was just wondering if Douglas has managed to correctly anticipate his previous HbA1c tests from his own readings, seeing as this is what he is now trying to do, and because my averages were lower than his, yet his A1c is in the 30's and mine in the 40's
