No I'm not on the low carb plan. Any ideas please?
Many people here on the forum follow the low carb/high fat mode of eating to control their diabetes.
Are you on medication for your diabetes ? If so you need to take that into account when low carbing to avoid dropping your blood sugar too low.
Essentially all carbohydrate turns to sugar during the process of metabolism so if you are T2 then you are carbohydrate intolerant and need to restrict your intake. The advice that the dietary advice that the NHS give make it hard to achieve your optimum BG readings without taking medication.
You need to avoid/severely limit your intake of bread, pasta, potato, cereals, watch starchy veg like carrots/sweet corn/parsnips and be wary of fruit with a high sugar content-so avoid bananas and grapes which are naturally very sugary. There are lots and lots of things that you can safely eat instead and test yourself 2 hours after eating to see how you react to different foods- we are all different.
Swap toast and breakfast cereal for Greek yoghurt and berries or have eggs and bacon. Don't have sandwiches for lunch but have an omelette, soup or salads with cheese and nuts, oily fish is also a good one. Lots of ideas here on the forum-have a read around. If I can figure out how to do it, I will try and tag Daisy who has some good info.
As well as lowering blood sugar it also helps you lose weight (if you want to do that) I began low-carbing last summer to keep Hubby company (he's the T2 not me) but found that I also lost 2.5 stone in the process.
hope that helps
