Since I still don't know what type of diabetes I have, I think this is the best section where I can write.

I am (nearly) 32y old and was diagnosed about 10 days ago. I started drinking very much water and still I was thirsty, so one day I decided to measure my blood sugar. Fortunately I had a measuring device at home, 'cause my mother too is diabetic. I had 475 mg/dl! Went to doctor, he took my blood and now he's doing an antibodies test. Since then I started counting my carbs intake and by reducing them I am now in values between 85 and 150, sometimes 200. Sport helps me a lot do sink the levels.
My mother was diagnosed at age 44, type 2, took Metformin 4 years then started with insuline. Still I am not sure if she had to take insuline or if she just wanted to. She hates dieting, and does no sport. She said to the doctors that she prefers insuline, and she eats everything what a diabetic shouldn't. I can't change her mind.

A side effect I noticed this week is that my sight has changed. I have always been myopic, and now I have problems seeing close objects. My doctor says it could be Age related, at 30/40 y presbyopia affects many people, but this change just happened this week, I can see better without my contacts lenses when I read, and using contact lenses gives me headaches when I concentrate on something close to my eyes. I'm scared about this sight problems, and have an appointment with a specialist next week.

I only hope I'm type 2 for now, but this whole story is making me crazy :-/

Suggestions and opinions are welcome.

Don't worry too much about your eyes at this point.
We get quite a few newly diagnosed people who find that their glasses prescription changes dramatically over the weeks and months around diagnosis.

I don't know all the technical terminology, but the raised glucose levels affect the fluid in the eye, and the focal length of the eyes. Please don't rush out and spend a lot of money on new prescription lenses or contact lenses until you have had a proper diagnosis, and your blood glucose is under control.

At that point you may find that your eyes have naturally returned to your normal prescription.

If you need something short term, may I suggest you buy the cheapest you can, or get those non-prescription reading glasses you can buy?

Hope this helps.

Thanks, your words are helpful.

I forgot to say I am just a bit overweight, weighing 80kg for 175 cm. That's a reason why my doctors think I'm type 1 (and because of age). 9 years ago I was obese weighing 108kg, and I had ups and downs with my weight. Maybe that helped developing diabetes, I don't know...
In the last times I even ate many sugars, it was a bit like an addiction. Cause or effect? Even this I don't know.

Diagnosed type 1 today. I think I will really need some help here, I'm new to all of this. From tomorrow I will start using insuline. Sooo sad...
