Peppers , Spiders, War and people who think they are better than me, we are all equal !
I am new here and I thought i would like to tell you a little bit about me and my diabetes.

I'm 38 and was diagnosed in 1980 at the age of 10 with type 1 Diabetes.
I have had two healthy children, now 13 and 16.
I have never liked going to the Diabetic clinic and for many years avoided it at all costs, I always felt like pink floyds " another brick in the wall ", and that the professionals didnt really understand. As a child i would sit for hours and make up numbers to put in my daily blood test log just to keep the doctors happy.
I didnt have any problems untill about 4 years ago, when i started to suffer from depression. At that time i had a great job and a lovely house and a very happy marriage, so the depression was totally out of the blue !
Since then i have had many diabetic complications, lots of Lazar Eye treatment, now partially sighted. Foot ulsers and abbess's, and loss of feeling in my feet, Diabetic nephropathy , ketoacidosis, Proteinuria, Peripheral neuropathy, and Nephrotic syndrome. I had to give up work in 2006 because of the depression, I lost my house and now am on Disability benefits. I still have my LOVELY godsend of a husband !!!!! and we are celebrating 20 years next year :D

My last Hablc was 9.9, it has always been around this mark. I do smoke, i dont drink, As for diet, i have never really had any advice and eat general healthy choices, although i have found the less carbs i eat the better my blood sugars are. I am not over weight, but i do not exercise due to my foot problems. I test my blood sugar 4 times a day and Inject Novorapid and Lantus ( Changed to Levimir last night ). I see GP/Consultants/ Nurse on a ( weekly )regular basis

Since joining the forum and researching diabetes and depression i have been made aware of the possible problem of "human " insulin and some peoples intolerance to it , i am currently trying to persuade my GP /Consultant /Nurse to give me a trial on Pork insulin, (I was on Pork insulin until 2003, so I do believe there could be a connection for me )

Thanx for reading ......... Just to make it clear, i am not really asking for help, i just wanted to get it all off my chest and share my experience of Diabetes, however i would welcome all comments and/or advice

You may be suffering from depression, but you are still strong. Congratulations too on being one of the "long marieds". I'm up to 37 1/2 years now and it hasn't always been easy. Husband is T1.

Re the pork. Ask then demand you are changed over to the insulin of your choice.
When/if you make the request make sure you take the name of the company that makes it as you will be told it isn't made any more

I have no idea what insulin i should ask for, apart from it not being " Human " neither do i know of the manufacturers . I did approach my pharmacist who told me they so stock Pork insulin and a few of their patients are prescribed it.

My own GP is on Holiday and not back for a week or so, My diabetic consultant cant see me until MAY next year , the diabetic nurse at the hospital was not impressed with my internet search and would not change me to Pork and only offered me Levimir as a substitute for the Lantus i am on.
My own diabetic nurse at my GP's surgery was more amenable and is looking into some of the information i gave her and said she would talk to my GP when he gets back off his holidays.

Do you know who can actually change me over/ prescribe , who should i be demanding ?
