Hello there! I'm Cammy3000 and i'm a diabetic!

Is that how i introduce myself? Suppose its the easiest way! Well, I will begin....

2 Years ago i was diagnosed as Type 2, kinda knew it would happen at some point as i dont drink Tea or Coffee it was always Pepsi or Lucozade for me. I have a sweet tooth and love Mars Bars and food like that. I think i've had more than most throughout my lifetime because of the not liking tea/coffee thing! Had a medical at work which included a blood test. The nurse referred me to my GP (which i had to go IMMEDIATLEY!). That got me worried as i knew it was coming!

The doctor confirmed Type 2, but seemed quite calm about it, in fact his exact words were "Dont worry too much, you will get fitter and lead a healthier lifestyle.". This kinda eased things for me.

Its been a couple of years and my Glucose level kind of sits about 7.8-9.0. I know i have to get it lower and until recently havent really took it as seriously as i should of. i still havent realised what foods i can or cannot eat, but only drink sugar free pop, and occasionally Lager/JD. I'm a shift worker...so social life is vastly reduced!! I am a dad to 2 wonderful kids aged 3 and 6. Both my girls love their sweets but i've slowly refused sugary foods. Its not easy!!

So, not gonna ramble and give u a life story. Basically (God, thats so Jeremy Kyle!) i have it....i am getting more used to having it....but i need to be more serious about it.

I have to learn what i CAN eat and more of what i CANT eat (thought Bran Flakes were good for me....ermmm thats a No!).

I Don't test myself, and actually feel OK. Guess thats why ive not took it serious. well thats gotta change!!

Looks brilliant here. People seem very nice. I'm gonna have a read in the forum now and get some great tips!

I applaude you all! I'm impressed with the great knowledge here. Hope i can contribute!

Thanks

Hi Cammy. Thanks for popplng in, good to see you.

Wish you luck with the sugsr free lifestyle. Stick with it, it's worth it.

Thank you! Its just somethinig i HAVE to improve on. Im just a proper sugar junkie!

I love Lucozade.....well...i used to :-(

I feel your pain Cammy I miss my ginger beer - memories......

Hello and welcome cammy! Yes, brilliant people here with good advice and fantastic support- have a good read around and keep asking questions. I would certainly urge you to get a meter and test, it's the way to take and keep control trust me!!

Welcome; this is a great forum and there is a massive reservoir of knowledge and experience to tap into.

You'll see a lot on here about keeping your carb consumption low - in the wider world it's considered controversial, especially if you broach the subject with an NHS Dietician Drone who has been programmed with the "Eatwell Plate Carbs with Every Meal" orthodoxy. I am one of nature's natural sceptics and will never be an evangelist for anything, but I have to say that keeping the carbs low has done my levels a power of good so I hope it works for you, too.

Kids and sweets, eh? One day they'll thank you for rationing their sugar intake - but it won't be any time soon..... :)
