Myth or True?

Recently, I experimented with brown rice over white rice. I had a meal with some white rice and after a couple of hours my glucose read 12.6 A few days later did the same but used brown rice. The result was slightly better. My glucose read 12.5
So, is it a myth to say brown rice is better or true?
 
Maybe the GI index thing works for some people, but in my personal experience a carb is a carb is a carb. Doesn't matter what it is, 25g of any carb will push me above the target I prefer to stay below. After your rice experiment, it seem that the same may be true for you.

If you had tested three times on each occasion the numbers could have had a greater spread for each. Not really possible to say if there is a difference there...
either or 12.5 is a big two hour read.

Have you tried the bare naked rice only 0.1g of cabs per pack found it at my local Morrison's and also do a bare naked noodles at 0.1g carbs I've tried both with tandoori chicken with no bad BG increase
 
Eldergarth thank you so much for that suggestion, I had not heard of these noodles and rice, I am definitely going to try the noodles with meat balls and pasta sauce, I see they are made from soya, I already make my porridge with unsweetened soya milk and cinnamon which helps. Looks like Sainsburys stock the range.
 
It's not a myth for me - I am ok with a small amount of brown rice which raises me into the low 7s at a peak and is down where I started after 2 hours, whereas white rice puts me into the teens and keeps me there for an hour before dropping me to around 8 after 2 hours (both from a low 5s starting point). It's the same with whole meal bread and white bread
Just shows everyone is different :)
 
No experiments here - all rice is just plain bad for me. :)

Same carbohydrate in brown and white but brown works slightly more slowly in the body. It is carbs you need to count/ take account of. 1 flat tablespoon of white or brown rice is 10 grammes of carbohydrate.
 
Veggettie, invest in a veggetti cutter, I veggetti most days, courgettes are the best, though tonight, for husbands dinner I did a pear, he was having turkey steak, cream cheese and pear.
 
the difference between 12.5 & 12.6 doesn't indicate anything the meter readings alone will vary more than that and if you were to check again on another finger there would be a variation also bg meters are only accurate in the normal bg range around 6mml
 
Well I have no idea if there is a difference for me and I am not going to try it to find out, but brown rice and white rice are exactly the same rice from the same plants, brown rice just has the bran, or outer shell still on it and has not been polished. That is my understanding anyways and also explains why the carb content is the same, the bran is mostly fiber.
