Hi everyone.

I was sent a link to this site by a friend and have to say, it is brill. I have learned so much from reading posts on here. The best one about the alcohol lol.

I am 41yrs old and was diagnosed type 2 about two months ago. My father has been insulin dependant since the age of 12yrs old but although I was bought up around diabetes, there is loads new to me.

My mother is type 1.5 for many years also. Fortunately, the doctors tell them they are healthy diabetics and have not had to deal with some of the more nasty consequences of having this disease.

Now about me. In hindsight, I have been a fool over the years. I have always ate what I thought was healthily, only organic and never eat rubbish or drink fizzy pop. My down fall has been eating to excess and drinking way way to much alcohol. As a consequence, I also have high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. All comes at once and was a shock to me.

Since being diagnosed about two months ago, I have come down from 105kg to 89kg from knocking the sugar on the head, watching my carbs and only drinking vodka lol. My BP is at the acceptable side of high and my eye scans are good. The nurse said my feet are also very good.

I have been whining myself of the smokes and today is the day of my last cigarette. I have never been a big smoker so I have not yet found it that hard to give up.

My biggest hurdle now is the drink. I work hard, don’t go out much but like cooking for friends and having a drink, to excess I admit, but I need to unwind and I like it.

Anyways thanks for listening and I look forward to getting to know you all.
