National Diabetes Audit Results

My consultant doesnt want my hba to be less than 6.8 for driving... If she says that to all type 1's then that could be a reason for less people hitting the targets.

She told me she would quite happy see me at 8.0 for my hba1c.

The hba1c level mentioned would only be achievable for me if I was a) low carbing or b) had a cgm.

I am all ok with an hba1c of 6.8 - 7.1%.

Low carbing enables me to hit the targets. HbA1c always in the 5s and cholesterol in the very low 4s. Blood pressure is just outside the target, if it's set at 130/?. I get 140 /70 usually. and since it's the bottom number that matters more, that's ok.
I'm 10 years down the line using minimal medication. [2 x 500mg Metformin per day.] I monitor my own bgs ans
d if I go outside my personal target of "Never over 6.5], I cut back harder on the carbs. I believe lack of carbs won't hurt me, but multiple and high dose medicines MIGHT!

There's a bit on-line now with an ADA dietician recommending low carb for diabetes [American Diabetes Association!] Time it happened here.
